About Verónica

Verónica Pacheco-Sanfuentes is fully accredited in both common and civil law. She practiced law for over a decade in Latin America and has been, for the last fourteen years, the sole appointed arbitrator and mediator for the air transportation industry for the Americas and Caribbean regions. Her international experience covers an extensive commercial dispute resolution practice. During her years in Venezuela, she had a complex public law litigation practice, including administrative law, anti-trust litigation, foreign investment, air transportation as well as consumer protection, appearing before all levels of court, administrative agencies, and tribunals. This diverse background provides her with a unique and comprehensive understanding of the law and its application to a wide range of industries and markets. She has always been committed to delivering the highest level of professional legal service.

In addition to the practice of law, Verónica is also interested in academia. For ten years (1994 – 2004), she was an adjunct professor in Administrative Law in her first alma mater. She also served as an external court clerk pro-bono at the First Administrative Court of Appeal and at the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice (1998 – 2004).

Verónica graduated from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Venezuela, obtaining her Juris Doctor diploma in 1991. She then pursued further graduate studies at the Université de Paris II (Panthéon-Assas), in France, obtaining her Diplôme d’Études Approfondi en Droit Public Interne (LL.M.) in 1992, with her thesis on Elf Aquitaine’s Partial Privatisation receiving an honorific distinction. After 12 years of practising law in Latin America, she emigrated to Canada in 2005, where she earned her second LL.M. degree, this time in Canadian Common Law at the University of British Columbia.

She is admitted to practice law in British Columbia, Canada (2020) and in Venezuela (1993), and is a Member-at-Large of the Air Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch).

She is fully bilingual in English and French, a native Spanish speaker, and has a very good working knowledge of Portuguese. She has conducted negotiations, arbitral and mediation procedures in all of these languages.

Verónica is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) People of Canada.
